A.K. Morgan
Living a
life a horse lover could only dream about, AK has been a professional
horseman all his life, in
the truest meaning of the word...quietly setting
a high standard no matter the
discipline. He was raised on a huge working
cattle ranch in Colorado, roping and riding from age 5 every day. He
served as a Whip on the famous Arapahoe Hunt for 17 years, played
professional polo for over 35 years and became renowned as one of the top
polo pony trainers in the country. He was very successful training and
showing Hunters on the A circuit, and won the prestigious American Royal
in 1974. AK trained for a time with the renowned Walter "Jimmy" Lee and
Wilson Denehy and he has been schooling equine and human alike for over 35
years. Huntseat and over fences, working
western,
driving, dressage, cross country and polo as well as just plain pleasure
riding. Having been a Champion competitor on both clients' horses and his
own, he knows what both amateurs and
professionals look for in that special horse, conformationally and intellectually, and what is needed to bring out the
best in both young prospects and those well along in their training. AK
managed several large breeding/training stables during the 60's, Arabians,
Thoroughbreds and racing Quarter Horses, so has extensive experience in
selecting and breeding high quality individuals.
The fact that he
is a Master Farrier, working from California to the Eastern Seaboard for
over 35 years specializing in corrective shoeing, gives him a special
insight into the conformation qualities that enhance or preclude
soundness and way of going.

I, on the other
hand, bring to the partnership tremendous experience in stall mucking,
grooming, tack trunk and trailer packing, fence repair, nursing broken
toes and fingers (usually my own), driving a big rig with 13 horses on
board (mostly through cities that have the lanes narrowed for
construction), lessons with small children, keeping track of foaling dates
(whoops, what she DUE today?), managing shoeing, training and show
schedules, keeping the right numbers and tack on the right horses, being a
ground
person for
my husband, groceries, and cooking and trying to keep the barn dirt out of
my house.
Recently retired (from
public training and showing, everything else still seems to be here!), we
now enjoy training and showing our own horses, both under saddle and in
hand, and with over 35 years of experience behind us, we are continuing
our personal breeding program with excitement and enthusiasm. Continuing
to produce beautiful, personable, and efficiently effective equine
athletes.
Using soft, patient, tried
and true training methods, starting the day the foals are born, with
consistent and gentle handling, we then expect the most of each animal...
and are rarely disappointed. We are known for turning out horses who are
quiet, generous, and willing, and that are extraordinarily well mannered,
yet still have that special "spark"... Our horses are also known for their
lightness and "handle". Visitors invariably remark at the friendliness and
'peacefulness' of our horses, even when out with our stallions or when
wandering through groups of weanlings. When you purchase a horse or pony
from Ancient Oaks, you can be assured, not only of the quality of
pedigree, conformation, and ability, but of a sound mind and gentle soul.
