The Beautiful Mares

The backbone of our breeding program....
They rule our lives ...and our breeding decisions....with femininity, fortitude and presence..
While stallions may come and go in the world's fickle desire for something 'new', the mares are here to stay...quietly making their valuable contribution to a responsible breeding program.
While no one's mares are 'perfect', we feel ours have an abundance of outstanding qualities that they consistently pass along to their foals. These lovely ladies make us look good, and we are grateful! Without them in their honored position, there would be no Ancient Oaks.....

Ancient Oaks Farm selects it's mares with scrutiny and insight.. We believe the mare to be far more than 50% of the equation. We believe the mare contributes those abstract qualities often so difficult to predict. Fortitude, boldness, inquisitiveness, respect, self esteem, and performance under pressure. Although often inherited to a degree from either parent, they can be enhanced or suppressed by the quality of mothering. Ancient Oaks factors these qualities in along with their evaluations of form and conformational qualities that will enhance those possessed by the mares. Never do they try and "fix" a mare, choosing instead to create superior individuals from two outstanding ones. Nor do they feel any one breed has a monopoly on performance qualities, but that the individual horse, it's family, and it's offspring, are the best indicators of success with each mating.

By our stallion, a.o. Breeze and out of our Trakehner mare, Imari. She was born March 28, and these are Susan McAdoo photos taken when the filly was 2 weeks old. She will be kept as a replacement mare, and we will be showing her..

Just Imagine

We are very impressed with her 2007 colt by *Nico, well known imported Dutch warmblood/Friesian stallion, and out of our premier Arabian mare, Roxanne. He demonstrates what we strive for, uphill build, elevated trot and canter, super extensions with a relaxed, free shoulder, and an incredible head and neck carriage. In addition, he exhibits a superb trainable and tractable nature. He will be very tall, 16h plus., with a near perfect conformation. Impressive dressage prospect for discriminating horsemen. He is offered for sale to serious inquiries.  See foals page for pictures.

We are delighted with the opportunity to purchase this gorgeous filly, with show plans and future breeding to our stallion, a.o. Breeze.
Even at 6 mo of age, she displays a regal self confidence and lovely conformation. She is by the infamous 'State of the Art (by Art Deco) and out of a Seattle Slew granddaughter..
